Though there are bus connections from Naxos Town’s bus station to all the main southwest coast beaches which run every half hour from early morning to late at night during high season, and buses to the island villages and major sites, it is worth having one’s own transport in Naxos.

The beach buses tend to get quite packed in season, and the ones that go to villages limit one to the fixed return schedule, with few buses running into the evening hours. The island feels much larger than it looks on the map, with distances quite deceiving, and one can find much to explore if not dependent on the buses.
